Overview

MiniRoos football caters for players in the U8 to U12 age groups and provides the opportunity to develop and improve their skills in a friendly, supportive and fun environment. Core values of teamwork, cooperation, fair play and respect for others are at the heart of the MiniRoos program.

Teams can be either mixed (boys and girls) or all-girls. For mixed teams, there are three levels of skill and experience:

  • Kangaroos - players with average to above-average skills and have generally been playing for a couple of years. In 2026, Kangaroo teams will be available in the U10, U11 and U12 age groups. Teams are formed through trials, which are held in November 2025 for the 2026 season.
  • Wallabies - players with average or developing skills, who generally have played before in formal competitions at school, or who have attending training clinics and programs.
  • Quokkas - players who are just starting and may have little to no experience of the skills or the game.

All-girls teams play in their own division against other all-girl teams.

As the MiniRoos program is focussed on development and learning, scores are not kept and no league tables are published.

How to Register 2026 ( 3)

When will teams be formed?

Kangaroo teams are formed through players attending trials and letters of offer being made in November of the previous year. All other teams will be formed at the MiniRoos Muster Afternoon.

A MiniRoos Muster Afternoon will be held per the following details:

Date: Friday 6 February
Time: 4.00pm

Players will have the opportunity to have a fun kick-around and form teams based on either friendship or skill level. Once a team is formed, parents are needed to volunteer to be a coach or manager. Once a team has:

  • players
  • a coach
  • a manager

the team can be confirmed with the Registrar. Once the team is confirmed, training dates can be finalised.

More details of the Muster will be made available closer to the date.

Training and Playing Times

Training for Wallaby and Quokka teams is usually held once per week and is determined by the availability of the coach. Training for Kangaroo teams is usually twice per week based on the availability of the coach plus an additional training session for skills development.

Matches mostly take place on Saturday mornings and are on a home (Usher Park, Daisy Hill) and away basis.

The season schedule is released by Football Queensland closer to the beginning of the season, with the season running from after the Easter school holidays until the weekend before the September school holidays. Games are not held during school holidays or over long weekends.

In the event of field closures due to weather, MiniRoos training and matches are not typically rescheduled.

Playing Uniform

All players are required to wear the Slacks Creek Football Club training shirt to and from games and while training. Players can purchase the training shirt, club socks and club shorts from the club shop.

Players must wear football boots with plastic tags and shin guards for protection.

Playing jerseys are provided for wear during matches however remain the property of the club.

Coaches

Each team requires a coach who is typically a parent of one of the players. If you are interested in coaching a team, please contact the club! All MiniRoos coaches are encouraged to complete the free MiniRoos Certificate and/or Foundation of Football course. SCFC will reimburse coaches the $100 cost of the Foundation of Football course on successful completion. Coaches are expected to attend a monthly coach's meeting where ongoing coaching development and resources will be provided by SCFC's Head Coach and representatives from Centre of Development.

All coaches must register through Squadi and PlayFootball (both free) and hold a valid Blue Card (Working with Children Check).

Managers

Each team requires a manager, typically a parent, to assist with team logistics. The manager is responsible for things like:

  • Managing the playing kit (often through a washing roster)
  • Organising half-time snacks (eg fruit), through a parent roster
  • Communication with parents

If a manager needs assistance, they can contact the club via info@slackscreekfc.com.au or speak with a member of the committee.

All managers are encouraged to attend a monthly Manager's Meeting where teams will be kept up-to-date on club and FQ information as well as being provided with an opportunity to see support or ask questions.

All managers must register through Squadi and PlayFootball (both free) and hold a valid Blue Card (Working With Children Check).

Parents

Parents are responsible for ensuring all 3 steps of the registration process are complete and all payments are made as required, making sure their child is at training and games on time and are dressed in accordance with club requirements.

Parents are encouraged to regularly check Creeks Facebook page for any relevant information.

Parents will also be listed on parent rosters for their child's team, usually for washing of jerseys and providing fruit breaks.

Parents are expected to support their child's team by respecting the decisions of team officials, match officials and club officials and by following policies guiding behaviour.

If a parent has any concerns, the first point of contact should be the team manager. If the issue is unable to be resolved at a team level, the manager will escalate the issue with a member of the committee.
