Overview

Junior competitive football, for age groups U13 - U18, is where young players solidify their skills while enjoying the challenges of competitive football, playing against teams of a similar ability, graded by division. Scores and league tables are published, culminating in semi and grand finals being played at the end of the season.

U13 continue to play 9-a-side on a 1/2 size pitch while, from U14, games are played 11-a-side on a full-size field.

Teams can be mixed (boys and girls) or all-girls. All-girl teams are dependant on numbers and can only be nominated to a competition if the required number of players register.

How to Register 2026 ( 3)

Training and Playing Times

Training is either once or twice per week and is determined by the availability and preference of the coach.

Matches can be scheduled across the week (nights) or during weekends and are on a home (Usher Park, Daisy Hill) and away basis.

The 2026 season schedule is released by Football Queensland closer to the beginning of the season, with rounds running from the weekend of 6 March through to the weekend of 4 September. Semi-finals and grand-finals will be held on the weekends of the 11 and 18 September. Games are usually not held during school holidays or over long weekends.

The first four rounds of U13 games are grading games, used to determine the most suitable division for teams to play in competitively.

In the event of field closures due to weather, Juniors matches will be rescheduled.

When will training commence?

Once a team has:

  • players
  • a coach
  • a manager

the team can be confirmed with the Registrar. Once the team is confirmed, training dates can be finalised.

Playing Uniform

All players are required to wear the Slacks Creek Football Club training shirt to and from games and while training and must wear club shorts and socks while playing. These can be purchased from the club shop.

Players must wear football boots with plastic tags and shin guards for protection.

Playing jerseys are provided for wear during matches however remain the property of the club.

Coaches

Each team requires a coach who is typically a parent of one of the players. If you are interested in coaching a team, please contact the club! All Juniors coaches are encouraged to complete the Foundation of Football course. SCFC will reimburse coaches the $100 cost of the Foundation of Football course on successful completion. Coaches are expected to attend a monthly coach's meeting where ongoing coaching development and resources will be provided by SCFC's Head Coach and representatives from Centre of Development.

All coaches must register through Squadi and PlayFootball (both free) and hold a valid Blue Card (Working with Children Check).

Managers

Each team requires a manager, typically a parent, to assist with team logistics. The manager is responsible for things like:

  • Managing the playing kit (often through a washing roster)
  • Organising half-time snacks (eg fruit), through a parent roster
  • Communication with parents

If a manager needs assistance, they can contact the club via info@slackscreekfc.com.au or speak with a member of the committee.

All managers are encouraged to attend a monthly Manager's Meeting where teams will be kept up-to-date on club and FQ information as well as being provided with an opportunity to see support or ask questions.

All managers must register through Squadi and PlayFootball (both free) and hold a valid Blue Card (Working With Children Check).

Parents

Parents are responsible for ensuring all 3 steps of the registration process are complete and all payments are made as required, making sure their child is at training and games on time and are dressed in accordance with club requirements.

Parents are encouraged to regularly check Creeks Facebook page for any relevant information.

Parents will also be listed on rosters for their child's team, usually for washing of jerseys and providing fruit break.

Parents are expected to support their child's team by respecting the decisions of team officials, match officials and club officials and by following policies guiding behaviour.

If a parent has any concerns, the first point of contact should be the team manager. If the issue is unable to be resolved at a team level, the manager will escalate the issue with a member of the committee.
